Current Challenges in the Area of Spreading Processes in Multilayer Networks

This week, the lunch seminar will take place WEDNESDAY (Mar 1) at 12.30PM at the Center for Data Science, 60 5th Avenue, 7th floor.

This weeks  speaker will be Piotr Brodka from the Wroclaw University of Science and Technology, Poland. Piotr will present:

Current Challenges in the Area of Spreading Processes in Multilayer Networks

The spreading processes in complex network and multilayer complex networks are among the fastest developing topics in modern network science. However, joining those two areas together results in the new one which is still getting its momentum. This is partially because in both areas we still have a lot to discover and understand. Thus, their merger creates uncharted space where the rules and phenomena discovered for spreading processes in simple networks very often no longer apply because of multilayer nature of networks populating this space. I will present in my talk a number of current challenges in the area of spreading processes in multilayer networks, starting from the problems known for simple networks, like seed selection strategies, and ending with the new problems specific for multiplayer networks, like the influence of layer switching costs on spreading. I will weave into my talk selected recent studies performed in this area.

WHAT: This lunch series is an informal weekly gathering of NYU Data Science affiliated persons to discuss a broad range of data science related topics. Each Wednesday at 12.30pm, there will be a 30 minute presentation, over lunch (provided), with additional time for conversation and questions. It is an excellent opportunity to meet others in the data science community and to learn about a broad range of topics, especially with regards to how data science impacts various fields.

WHEN: Wednesdays at 12.30 PM

WHERE: The Center for Data Science. 60 5th Avenue, 7th floor
